Other Common Questions
What is your Web site's privacy policy?
What is the Forum?
The Forum is a place to post comments to news articles, to ask questions about topics you are working on in your job, to discuss hot issues and to talk about non-technical topics and events. The Forum is divided into three areas: comments on the news, ask a question and off-topic. You must register to use the Forum.
How do I register to use the Forum?
Click on "The Forum" tab at the top of the Nextgov Web site, or you can click here: http://preview.nextgov.com/forums/. At the top of the Forum page on the right, click on the "Register" tab, or you can click here: http://preview.nextgov.com/forums/register.php.
I saw offensive language in some of the messages in the Forum. Why?
Although the administrators and moderators of NextGov forums attempt to delete all objectionable messages from discussions, it is impossible for us to review all messages. If you view a message that is objectionable, you can flag it as such to alert Nextgov administrators and moderators to look at the message.
You will see this notice in most places to post a comment: "By using this Service you agree not to post material that is obscene, harassing, defamatory, or otherwise objectionable. Although Nextgov does not monitor comments posted to this site (and has no obligation to), it reserves the right to delete, edit, or move any material that it deems to be in violation of this rule."
Is my privacy protected in the Forum?
Yes. You can register under any username you choose, and you can provide as much, or little, personal information as you wish in your profile. However, besides the username and password field, you must provide your date of birth and your employment status: federal employee, federal contractor, retired, or other. You also must provide a working email address to receive your initial password to access the Forum.
How do I read and post comments and questions on the Forum?
You can find instructions for reading and posting comments in the Forum in the Forum’s frequently asked questions section here: http://preview.nextgov.com/forums/faq.php.
How do I create and edit my profile and learn how to use the Forum?

How do I subscribe to one of your e-mail newsletters?
To add yourself to the "Nextgov Today" or "What’s Brewin'" e-mail lists, click here: http://www.govexec.com/email/. Enter your e-mail address in the space provided, check the boxes against the newsletters you wish to subscribe to, and click on the "Subscribe" button.
How do I unsubscribe from your e-mail newsletters?
To remove yourself from the "Nextgov Today" or "What’s Brewin’” e-mail lists, click here: http://www.govexec.com/email/. Enter your e-mail address in the space provided. Check the boxes against the newsletter you no longer wish to receive and click on the "Unsubscribe" button.
To remove yourself from all of our newsletter distribution lists, use the "Remove From All" button.
Make sure that you unsubscribe the e-mail address that is in our database. Some organizations have several email aliases for their employees that are routed to the same destination. For example, JDoe@govexec.com, JohnDoe@govexec.com, JDoe@mail.govexec.com and John.Doe@govexec.com.
If you are not sure what email address your subscription is attached to, you can find it at the very bottom of our newsletters in the line that reads:
This message was sent from GovExec.com to address your.name@your.domain.com.
You can also unsubscribe your address from a particular newsletter by clicking on the "unsubscribe" link at the bottom of the newsletter you received.
How do I change my e-mail address?
To change your e-mail address, go to http://www.govexec.com/email/. First unsubscribe your old e-mail address by entering it in the box and clicking on the "Remove From All" button. Then, enter your new address in the subscription form at the top of the page, check the boxes against the newsletters you wish to subscribe to, and click on the "Subscribe" button.
How do I purchase an ad in your e-mail newsletters?
If you're interested in purchasing advertising space at the top of our e-mail newsletters, please contact Connie Isler at cisler@govexec.com or call her at 202-266-7412.
I work at GSA and I can't read your e-mail newsletters. Why not?
Some GSA users have an older version of Lotus Notes that does not allow users to receive HTML mail. Until everyone is switched to the new version, you can view our stories online at www.nextgov.com, and our "More Nextgov News" page lists past stories we’ve written going back several months, organized by day: http://nextgov.com/nextgov/news.php.
Additionally, we have created a Web version of the various e-mail newsletters.
You can find "Nextgov Today" at http://governmentexecutive.com/email/nextgov.html.
You can find "What’s Brewin’" at http://governmentexecutive.com/story_page.cfm?articleid=39423.
We do not currently have the resources to send two different versions of our e-mail newsletters for users who cannot support HTML. We are working on developing this capability.
Why am I getting duplicate e-mail newsletters?
You are probably receiving duplicates of our e-mail newsletters because you are subscribed with two different e-mail addresses that are routed to the same destination. For example, you may be subscribed as JDoe@govexec.com and JohnDoe@govexec.com. Or, it might be something like this: JDoe@govexec.com and JDoe@mail.govexec.com.
At the very bottom of our e-mail newsletters there is a line that reads:
This message was sent from GovExec.com to address your.name@your.domain.com
Here are the simple guidelines. If this line in the duplicate newsletters specifies different addresses, then point your browser to http://www.govexec.com/email/#2 and enter the unwanted e-mail address in the text field and click on the "Remove From All" button.
If you are also a print magazine subscriber it would be a good idea to keep the same e-mail address that you have in your profile at http://www.omeda.com/custsrv/ge/.
If duplicate email newsletters are being sent to the same exact address, send an e-mail to webmaster@govexec.com with the full Internet headers from both copies, so we can resolve the problem. We apologize for any inconvenience.
The Table of Contents links in the e-mail newsletters don't work for me. Why not?
Sometimes links from the Table of Contents in Nextgov Today do not "jump" down to the story you want. After some research, we've discovered that the function does not work in Lotus Notes. According to a Lotus developer, "that's one of the things that doesn't make it through the translation very well." We are hopeful that Lotus Notes will resolve this issue in the next major release of Notes. In the meantime, you can still access our stories by clicking on the external links (the ones that start with http://www.nextgov.com/). Additionally, our "More Nextgov News" page lists all the stories we've written for the past several days, organized by day: http://preview.nextgov.com/nextgov/news.php.
I have suddenly stopped getting your e-mail newsletters and I didn't unsubscribe. Why?
When this happens, the problem is often that your organization's mail server is blocking the domain through which our e-mail is sent. We use the O-mail system to send our e-mail newsletters. If your organization has blocked any incoming e-mail from domain govexec-media.com, you will not receive any e-mail from us. Please contact your network administrator about these domains.
I can't read your e-mail newsletters. Why?
Certain subscribers with older e-mail clients cannot read HTML mail. For you, we have created Web versions of the e-mail newsletters.
You can find "Nextgov Today" at http://governmentexecutive.com/email/nextgov.html.
You can find "What’s Brewin’" at http://governmentexecutive.com/story_page.cfm?articleid=39423.
We do not currently have the resources to send two different versions of our e-mail for users who cannot support HTML.
What is your privacy policy for your e-mail newsletters?
Nextgov.com does not sell its e-mail list to any third parties, nor do we "swap" lists with other organizations. You will not begin receiving "spam" from third party groups as a result of being a subscriber to Nextgov.com e-mail newsletters. Occasionally we do send out information to our subscribers on internal promotions. Since our promotions and conferences often deal with many of the same topics on Nextgov.com, we find that most of our subscribers are pleased to learn about them. For most people, it is the only way they learn about the promotions and conferences as we do not print a magazine for Nextgov. But to ensure we do not wear out our welcome, we try to use the medium only with the most important promotions from the magazine.
How do you format your e-mail newsletter?
Our e-mail newsletters are formatted as HTML mail. The "jump down" links are made using HTML code for "anchors."
I'm looking for a story I read in an e-mail newsletter, where can I find it?
For a list of Web articles from the past several days, visit our news headlines page.
You also can search Nextgov.com by keyword in the search field at the top right corner of the Web site.
If you have any trouble finding what you need, please let us know at webmaster@govexec.com
How can I get permission to reprint something I read on the Web or in your e-mail newsletters?
There are three different types of permission for Web articles:
1. Permission for federal employees to reproduce articles for conferences, training etc. Permission is granted on a case-by-case basis. If permission is granted reprints must be accompanied by a tagline giving credit to Nextgov.com. To request such permission, e-mail webmaster@govexec.com.
2. Permission to make reprints in bulk for commercial purposes, to include an article in a textbook, etc., send requests to webmaster@govexec.com.
3. Permission to license content on an ongoing basis. See http://nationaljournal.com/about/contentlicensing/ for more information. Or send requests to webmaster@govexec.com.
What is your Web site's privacy policy?
